Toro Rosso launch STR7 as they prepare for 2012

Toro Rosso are the eighth team to launch their 2012 car.

Toro Rosso have launched their 2012 challenger, named the STR7 on the eve of the first test in Jerez. The team have an all new driver line up in 2012, with both Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi being replaced by Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo.

The Faenza based team finished eighth in the championship last season, and just missed out on seventh place after a strong finish. However, the team must now go without its two drivers from 2011, both of whom in my opinion performed well and did nothing which warranted a sacking. However, I am excited to see how both drivers do in 2012, particularly Vergne, as the Frenchman topped all three days of the Abu Dhabi Young Drivers' Test in November. Also Ricciardo will be interesting to watch, after a spell at HRT deemed impressive by most. Sebastien Buemi is Red Bull and Toro Rosso's reserve driver this season, while Jaime Alguersuari hasn't found a drive, but is rumoured to be interested in becoming the McLaren reserve. The car does feature the stepped nose, as do all but McLaren so far, but this is far more attractive, with the step blending in more than on any others. A more flat nose as well as a curved end is part of the design, as well as large sidepods. Toro Rosso had strong straight line speed last season, and will be looking to emulate that in 2012.

Toro Rosso are the eighth team to launch their car. Williams are launching tomorrow, while Mercedes, HRT and Marussia are launching later on. Testing begins at Jerez tomorrow, with Ricciardo driving on Tuesday and Wednesday, and Frenchman Vergne completing the four day test.
